Another Long Night

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Boston general manager Theo Epstein just held a briefing session with the team’s beat reporters, and while he wouldn’t comment on what’s being talked about, he said he expected negotiations to go “well into the night,” presumably with the Twins. He also said the teams are being flexible, that no “final offers” have been made.

the twins should not do this! they just gave away garza. they need the closest thing to a hall of fame talent pitching prospect back for johan! i believe that is phil hughes in a landslide over jon lester. trade him to the yankees. and don't try and be too greedy! hughes, melky and a mid class prospect is a better offer! smith, you are a moron! why the hell do you want to trade to the red sox so bad? are you gay with theo epstein or something?

Yanks4eva4 cannot stand the thought of the Bosox getting Santana. He is so used to getting his way over the years as the evil empire has ruled the roost.

Well the evil empire is crumbling and the Yanks are no longer the team that anyone wants to play for anymore. Ahhhhh,,,,,,,what a shame.

Go RedSox

I love all these YANKEE fans who are trying to say Hughes is a future hall of famer and are saying "please take the yanks offer".......listen guys...the Twins will do what's best for the Twins..not what's best for the yankees...the Red Sox....the Angels or the Toledo Mud Hens. They also will not say "Well..the Boston deal is exactly what we want..but let's check the message boards and make sure it's ok with Yanks4Eva...because God knows he is an impartial observer. Jesus guys...grow up.....I know you are used to getting what you want, but times have changed...the Yankees farm system sucks, their prospects are few and the ones they have do not compare with most other team's prospects. Accept it.....Yankee management obviously has

i am not saying that hughes is going to be a hall of famer but he could be. i mean he is projected to be a number 1 or 2 starter. i know you guys are going to say; key word PROJECTED but he has dominated at every leval and if he didn't get hurt last year he probablly would have dominated. and why do the red sox want santana? there rotation is beast even without him. they did their job. the yanks are no longer in the running for him. why give up any prospects? i don't know why u sux fans want this to go through. give me a reason why this is a good trade for them. my guess is that the twins will accept the trade and then the red sox will realize they don't need santana and not sign him long term. the deal will then fall apart. leaving the twins with johan.
twins fans; why do you think bill smith is so kooko for coco crisp? when are you going to realize that there are plenty of better cf left that will make about the same as crisp is now. i.e lofton and patterson.
signing lofton would make perfect sense if they did the yankee trade. sign him to a 1 year deal with a team option for a second year and then have austin jackson take over center field and emerge as a all star.

yanks4ev4, the yankees have said they won't trade Jackson. We are not kookoo for Crisp, and we know that he is not the long term option. The part of this deal that the yankees didn't offer is that we are getting Kalish, a 20-homer 40-SB prospect. He is probably better than Jackson, check that, is better. I agree that Hughes may be the next big thing, but we need quantity and quality, and the yankees couldn't offer the quantity part of that deal.

LOL....again with the misinformation. Coco Crisp is an Affordable cf...UNLIKE ANDRUW AONES OR SOME OF THE OTHER OPTIONS OUT THERE. ELLSBURY IS A FUTURE STAR (DID YOU NOT WATCH THE PLAYOFFS??)
Phil Hughes had a couple nice starts and a couple not so nice starts......Hughes isn't even on the same level as Clay Buchholz.....and to be perfectly honest...Masterson may be better than Hughes too. It's just sour grapes....Yankee fans only used to have to wish for a player...and they could buy him...and get him for nothing (EX: Bobby Abreau)...but the well ran dry...they only have one or two decent prospects (Kennedy isn't even considered a possible #3 by most KNOWING personel). So again....I am not claiming to be a Red Sox fan...a Yankees fan...a Twins fan....I am just speaking facts here. Stop whining.......if someone else swoops in with a BETTER (key word) offer...the Twins will take it..but beating the offer on the table will be tough...and despite what Yankees fans think..it is by far the best deal out there right now.....

yanks4eva4, I can smell your desperation over my inernet connection it is so rankerous. Real smart move by Hank with the ultimatum. Fortunately for we Sox fans, Georgie's boys are complete degenerates. And while we are on the subject of degenerates, your gay comments make you sound like one.

Maybe Hank will learn to keep his fat mouth shut and let someone who actually knows how to conduct a major trade handle it properly, a la Theo Epstien. Cool and calculated, and not afraid to play the game, unlike Hank. Hank is like some kid who runs away stomping and crying when he doesn't get what he wants. Then again, there are lots of Yankee fans who fit that mold, so it shouldn't be that surprising.

Once again, I would like to say how very comfortable I am as a Sox fan knowing the Yankees are going to be run by these two half wits for the foreseeable future.

PS : Yanks4Eva I work in a Bank......I don't pretend to be a baseball GM........I'm just stating facts. Unless you are a GM with KNOWLEDGE...please spare us your "desperate pleas for help"

BTW, if the Sox manage to land Santana, the Yankees are screwed, in case that wasn't painfully obvious to you thick-skulled, entitled Yankee fans.

I do hope we get Ellsbury. He is what the team needs. We have alot of pitching sitting in AAA that can pitch for us. Also nathan will be traded and I see a sp and 3rd baseman being sent to us. If the yanks gave up Kennedy as well the deal would have been made days ago! So hank needs to either up the offer or shut the hell up like all Yankee fans need to do.

quagmire, I love it how you talk trash about Ian Kennedy. FYI- Kennedy had the most success in the minors last year... Yes, more success than Joba and Phil Hughes and much more than your prospect Clay Buchholz. Im not trying to say that Buchholz isnt a good prospect, but he is pretty much untested. He got shelled in AAA (1-3) and i think it is just a matter of time before he gets shredded by a MLB linup.

Phil Hughes is on a completely differently level than your prospect and he will be the weakest link your lineup (Ask any analyst). There is a reason why the Yankees aren't willing to trade two of these guys for quite possibily the best pitcher in Baseball! ITS BECAUSE THESES GUYS ARE THE REAL DEAL!

Notice that the twins arent even interested in Clay..... I wonder why!!!

And for those who say the yankees farm system sucks, you should know your facts. The yankees had a terrible ritual of trading away all of their prospects (the still young Ted Lilly, Jeremy Bonderman, just to mention a few) for guys who can't handle the pressure of the bronx.

We all have seen the absolutely ridiculous pitching of Joba Chamberlin (.38 ERA) and how dirty Phil Hughes is (if you dont understand this, just watch him)

Bask in your Glory Red Sox fans because as history tells us, it wont last for long

The Twins do not have to trade Johan right now, its the middle of the winter and they still have until the trade deadline or keep him for a title run or get draft picks. Hank is an idiot. The Yankees need Johan more than the Sox. Trade Hughes, Kennedy and scrub Cabrera for Santana would be a steal for the Yankees. Look what the Tigers did, they gave away the farm plus 2 major league ready players.

You forget - or didn't know - that Santana can veto any trade. He has said he wont entertain being traded during the season. So that knocks down some of the Twins' flexibility. As for the Yanks' chance, well, dont go giving the Redsox the divison, pennant and world series just yet, with or without Santana. We have a baseball season to play..
